Home for Christmas 2010

I'll be home for Christmas, you can count on me.
Please no snow, but mistletoe.
And all the presents for me!
Christmas Eve will find me, where the sunshine beams
I'll be home for Christmas, if only for two weeks!
We were lucky enough to get enough time off of school and work to run home for Christmas this year. Our trip down was literal hell. 13 hours of non stop, snow, rain, hail, fog. Scared for our life most of the time we made a "game" of counting all the cars that had spun off the road. For your information 28 cars, 9 Semi trucks, and 13 Voluntary pull overs. At one point the roads were so bad that all the trucks just stopped right there on the freeway to chain up their tires.
We finally made it to St. George and the entire town was flooded. We stopped by Grandma Lyman's house to give our Christmas wishes but we were not able to stay long in fear of our car floating away. This is the Virgin River Gorge. Most of you that have traveled the 15 many times have NEVER seen this much water there. Zach related it to Charlie and the chocolate factory " it mixes the chocolate, makes it light, and frothy." He is such a goober but I love him!

We finally made it to warm, sunny, beauti-.... wait, what the heck!? Where is the sunshine? For your information it rained almost out entire trip. Sad about the weather but beyond happy to be home and spending time with my family.

We went to Aunt Allynne's house for Christmas Eve. Christmas day we woke up and opened presents with my family. We laid in bed and waiting by the phone until Elder Josh Lyman called. We were to scared to shower or get ready for the day because we didn't want to miss this call. We had so much fun talking to Josh. We miss him every day! Zach did his tradition of throwing up on Christmas. Don't ask me why, hes just done it for as long as he can remember. He has no control over it.
That evening we went to Grandma and Grandpa Websters and got to see all of Zach's family. Enjoyed turkey sandwiches and got to meet their new puppy Sully. Cute little thing. The little cousins played with the new race car outside while we were stuck inside with "adult conversations." Sometimes I miss sitting at the kids table. Merry Christmas 2010, love the Lymans.

Also on our trip home I was able to visit my good friend Stephanie and her new baby. I went home last month to see Jayden when she was born but the little stinker decided to stay in the NICU a few extra days and so I never really got to see her. One evening I helped Stephanie make cookies for all the nurses for the NICU and she snuck me into the NICU and I got to see Baby Jayden at 3 days old. She is beautiful. Looking at this kid you would never believe she was 6 weeks early! Zach and I spent alot of time over there just holding and loving her. There is NOTHING like holding a little tiny newborn to let you know the miracle of life. I also was able to do her newborn photo shoot and the pictures turned out great!
Another fun adventure while we were in town. We were able to see TT bear. Can you believe how big she is getting?! We took her out on a "cold date" (her words) so that her parents could go on a "hot date." We played for a while at her house and she showed me all the wonderful things Santa brought her. Then we went to a movie at the theater and saw Tangled. Zach tried and tried to convince her to see another movie, but the girl knew what she wanted. We love playing "house" with her. Afterwards we painted her nails and went out to dinner. I am so glad that she remembers me. I was with her so much growing up but you never really know how much they remember. She knows my name, knows that I live in the snow, and knows that I sing to her and I'm her favorite playing buddy, aside from the neighbor kids of course.

Lyman Family Fiesta Tradition

The Sunday before Christmas we celebrate the annual Lyman Family Fiesta. It is one of my favorite celebrations. As Zach would tell you, "its a whole bunch of white people cooking Mexican food." I tell ya, I joined one AWESOME family. I don't know how it started or why exactly its Mexican food but its wonderful! The whole family comes together, we stuff our faces with Mexican food, act out the Christmas story and just enjoy being together.
This year we spiced things up with a pinata!

Our nephew Max taking a turn! This was so fun to watch, three grown men holding a 2x4 and praying that no one breaks anything.
We opened a few presents early this year because Zach and I were going to California. We gave Lance mustaches to replace the one he had to shave when he was called as a temple worker. We all wore then and even little Maizy joined the fun and let us put one on her.

Then we dressed up and Lance read the Christmas story from the scriptures. I was a Shepard, Lindsay the star, Finleigh was Mary, Max was a king, Jono was the donkey, Zach I believe another king?, Maizy played the role of baby Jesus and Nate?.. well we don't really know. He showed up with a gun and we just let him in the picture.

Now this was the highlight of the night. After trading a few gifts, Mom and Jono gave Nate his gift. Believe it or not... it was a lime green spandex suite. He came out of the bathroom and I laughed so hard I almost forgot to take pictures. The look on Lindsay's face says it all. Let's just say, you could see EVERYTHING in that outfit and I saw sides of my brother I never wanted to see. But BOY was it funny!!!

Zach and I all dressed up before the Christmas story. We have so much fun getting the kids dressed and acting out the story.

And with lots of laughs and a tummy full of good food, we ended our evening. It was so much fun and I can't wait till next year.

On a side note, I took this darling picture of Kyra helping Grandma decorate her tree.

Provo Tabernacle

This is what I saw on my way to work today. Tragic. The Provo tabernacle up in flames. It is one of the oldest buildings in the state and it was sad to see it go. I'll update more information when I know more.

So much to be thankful for.

Can you tell how exciting my life is? I can ignore my blog for almost a whole month and not feel bad about it. If people would like to be updated on the daily things, sure I'll post more. But I doubt you're interested so I will save my fingers the work and just fill in the good stuff.
As we already know, November is a month of thanks giving. A month to remember what we are grateful for, no matter how big or small. So here is a little project I've been working on this month, its about what I'm thankful for daily, in no particular order.
November
1st-The beautiful fall leaves that line almost my entire drive home each day.
2nd- First cold day of fall and a bowl of homemade soup
3rd- The great group of friends that always make me laugh
4th- the gospel in my life, what a blessing in itself! Where would I be without it?!?
5th- Modern medicine, what a miracle it is to have access to so many helpful things to keep us heathy and happy longer.
6th- My mommy! Today is her birthday and I am so thankful for her because without her, there's no me!
7th- The unconditional love of animals, this became very apparent after watching my aunts 40 dogs for a week. No matter what, they always love you. Do you know how to tell if your wife or your dog loves you more? Throw them both in the trunk and drive around for an hour, when you open it up, see who's happy to see you. :)
8th-The beautiful gift of life. Jayden Marie Gonzales graced us with her presence from heaven today. She is perfect and I already love her to pieces.
9th- My amazing little missionary brother in law, I am so proud of the wonderful example he is and his willingness to serve and teach others about the church.Baptize the hell out of them little brother!!
10th- Zach's fun Sunday school class, they love him and he is a great teacher. I just bring treats!
11th- Wonderful family in California, I miss them daily but I'm so happy when I get to visit.
12th- Can I be thankful that Zach rewired and installed a new garbage disposal? Cuz seriously it was quite a task and I am thankful for no more stinky sinks.
13th- Found out a dear friend of mine is expecting!! What a blessing for their family. I won't spill the beans on who until we know more, but I'm still excited to meet the new little one!
14th- The love and support my "family in law" has been this past year. They are all so welcoming and I am so grateful to be a Lyman
15th- Living with a couple old people who demand that the house be at a cozy 80 degrees everyday. Nothing like a warm house to come home to.
16th- my amazing fire starting skills, they really help on those cold winter nights.
17th- todays technology for making it so easy to stay in touch with family and friends.
18th- that after a crazy month of traveling, I'm able to come home to my comfy bed.
19th- 14 months of marriage, can you believe it? Where does the time go? I am so happy to be married to my best friend for time and all eternity.
20th- being able to go to the temple with Maichael, she has been such a great friend for the past 9 years and being able to spend time together in the temple is just perfect. I love our weekly hang outs.
21st-The necessities, running water, indoor plumbing, washing machine.
22nd- my talents, even though lately I have wanted to do nothing but hide them, I'm still grateful that I was given them.
23rd- Our home, enough said.
24th- my beautiful nieces and nephew. They spent the night tonight and it was so fun getting to really spend time with them! I love them so much!
25th-thanksgiving and the one day a year I can eat 4 sweet potatoes and no one is allowed to call me a fatty for doing so.
26th- sleeping in on days off! I know this wont be able to happen when we have kids so I must take advantage while I can!
27th- My fun friend Marlo's birthday is today. She has an amazing family and I love watching T grow over the years.
28th - Zach for saving our lives tonight when a car spun out on the freeway and I cried like a baby.
29th- Snow, yup, that's right, I said it. But I can bet you will never hear that again.
30th- A well paying job in such a hard economical time.
Can you find 30 things that you are truly thankful for?

Burn baby Burn....

How many people can say that they have actually ran INTO a burning building willingly?
Me! Me! I have! ME!

Tonight I got to have one of the coolest experiences of my life!
Zach works at UFRA (Utah Fire and Rescue Academy) and was able to use his charm, and my good looks, to convince a few of the fire captains to let me go in a "burn".

There was TONS of gear to put on.
Boots, pants, suspenders, jacket, hood, helmet, gloves, mask, and the air tank.
That right there was my definite sign that I could NEVER be a fire fighter, I could NEVER get all of that equipment on in less than a minute.
My boots were 3 sizes to big and it was so hard to try and walk in them.

Let me explain a little more about why we were lighting a building on fire. At UFRA they teach firefighters and train them. And how else do you train someone to fight fires... but to actually light things on fire! So a few times a week they "burn" to teach them different situations.
They usually light the "Tuna Can" a lot to teach about house and building fires. The tuna can is a two story building made completely out of metal so they can reuse it. They also have fake cars, dumpsters, trains and all sorts of fun stuff. The yard reminds me of several "end of the world" movies I have seen.

Tonight we surprised the students with a burn, to throw them off guard and see how they respond.

I went inside with one of the instructors named, Matt. We took piles of excelsior inside the building and Matt showed me around in the dark with only the small light of a flair. We lit the building and waiting inside while the instructors outside paged all units to the house fire. Zach waited outside, counting the minutes until I was "saved"

I think the look on my face says it all. Scared but really excited.

After the fire we were cooling off. It got to over 600 degrees in there! Wow!

Kyra Girl

You are the sunshine of my life! Every time I spend the day with you, it just makes me want to have a kid sooner and sooner.

This morning I told you that you looked like a Rag-a-muffin and asked if I could fix your hair. You said "ok Sara, I don't want to look like a raggle-muffin.

When I came home from work, you greeted me with open arms and a big hug. Man, you know how to brighten up my day.

Tonight I heard you all the way upstairs singing at the top of your lungs, some silly made up song. You danced and twirled in your diaper as your blankie acted as a beautiful ball gown fit for a princess.

When it was time for bed, you gently kissed each princess doll good night (all 15 of them) and wished them sweet dreams.

Then you told me I was not invited to help you with your own prayer, but I listened quitely outside the door. You are a darling little daughter of Heavenly Father, never forget that.

You look just like my mom did when she was your age, and my what a beautiful woman Aunt KK has become. I know you will turn out the same way.

Even though your mom has been in the hospital which made this week together a little bittersweet, I have still enjoyed every minute of it.

I love you Kyra girl and just can't seem to get enough of you lately.

Last call.

We're making the final call and going private.

Leave me your email and we can add you to the list.

Thanks.

L is for the way you look at me...

Can you believe that one year ago today, I married my best friend for time and all eternity?
Where does the time go? I am so blessed to have such a wonderful man in my life and I am continually grateful for the love and support he gives me.

We had a wonderful anniversary weekend. Saturday we went and watched our nephew Max in his soccer game and had a blast. We even got the meet their new puppy. Then Zach got called into work and I decided to tag along. The firemen don't mind. We met up with a couple friends for dinner that night then we went home and opened presents. Even though we PROMISED not to get each other anything ... we still did. We're horrible like that. I got Zach a new electric razor, which I know sounds lame but I promise it was funny at the time. He started this month with the intent to not shave until our anniversary, but my semi-scruffy husband had to shave his face a couple days before our big day for an interview. I also made him a wedding album but I got so excited when it got delivered that I gave it to him a couple days year. Zach bought me two Halloween movies I really wanted, my favorite chocolates and roses. Yes, I'm spoiled.

We woke up and taught our Sunday school class. After church we came home and watched a movie and fell asleep. We woke up and took a nice drive/hike around the canyon and came home and started making dinner.

For dinner that night I made oreo cheesecake, king crab legs, four cheese mashed potatoes, corn and sour dough bread. We ate like kings! We wash it all down with Zach's favorite lemonade.
A nice warm bath and reading our "love letters" to each other that night.
This past year has been amazing! Everyday has been a new adventure and I look forward to so many more to come!
We started our life together on 9.19.09...

And the party hasn't stopped since....

Quick update, pictures later.

One year older and wiser too! Happy birthday to you, my dear husband!I have to admit I am probably the WORST wife in the world. Zach’s birthday always seems to fall on an extremely busy day for us and he can never just sit back and get spoiled.

We were in California for his birthday last year but he had to share that day with our friends wedding! This year we were lucky enough to go back to California for his birthday weekend. Unfortunately he had to share his special day again, this year with my best friend and a 3 year old. Thankfully we celebrated a lot in Vegas last month so we still got to celebrate his birthday there.I am so lucky to have married a selfless man.

Zach, you truly are an amazing. I consider myself lucky every day to have someone like you in my life. I hope you enjoyed your birthday weekend and I’m excited to spoil you rotten next year!

We had lots of fun on our California trip, though it was short and a little rushed it was great to see my family again. Friday we went out to lunch with my little brother and then he treated us to a movie at his theater. That evening we got to play with the Websters. We went out to dinner with the grandparents and uncle Chris and family. After dinner we played with 9 labradoodle puppies, they were so sweet! Then we came home and watched a movie with my Mom, well Zach watched the movie, I fell asleep.

Saturday my mom and I woke up early to make a yummy breakfast for Zach. Then we went to the Irvine Spectrum and went shopping with the family. We played at D&B for a couple hours and stopped by the Cheesecake Factory to pick up a yummy cheesecake for Zach’s birthday. We rushed down to dinner at North woods Inn and enjoyed a huge yummy steak. My mouth is watering just talking about it.After dinner we went over to Teresa’s birthday party. I can’t believe how big she is getting!! I just love her to pieces and it was great to see her family again. I was a little worried she wouldn’t remember me but she did. I hear she’s a big singer these days, I wonder if I rubbed off on her. I think her parents should throw her on a plane and let her come visit me for a week. *hint hint*

Later that night we stopped by my best friends’ house. That’s right; Hermana Mayans has returned from Chile and is no longer a Hermana! I’m am so happy she is home and going to be living in Utah. We came home and enjoyed lots of cheesecake and celebrated Zach’s birthday!!!!

Sunday was her homecoming and after church we headed home to take a much needed nap. We woke up that evening and went out to dinner with my parents. Afterwards we just hung around the house and I helped wash and groom all the dogs. And then I remembered why I don’t want a puppy anymore.

Monday morning we went to breakfast with my good friend Stephanie. She is about 5 months pregnant right now and it has been so hard being away from her while she is having so much fun getting ready for her first child. After that we ran down to the beach and did NOTHING. Our friends the Mascio’s came along to play. After a couple hours at the beach we ran home to shower and get ready for the baseball game. Can I just say it isn’t summer until I’ve gone to the beach and a baseball game. So I guess summer just started on Monday. That night we went to yogurtland with my friend Rhett who came down from Sacramento to see us! Then we caught an early flight home on Tuesday. It was very quick but very enjoyable trip home. We wish we were coming back sooner.

But school has now started and I wont be seeing my husband for another 9 months or so. Crazy.

See you in two!!

Elder Lyman,

You will be a great missionary and we already miss you!
We may be losing a brother, but we're gaining an xbox!

Here we go again....

Apparently "voice of the people" actually means "voice of one single judge"...
Today a California Judge overturned Prop 8. Judge Vaughn Walker says the ban on same-sex marriage violates constitutional rights to equal protection and due process. The decision is expected to reach the Supreme Court.

I have faith. I have faith that this will work out the way it is supposed to. I have faith that the church members will work a million times harder. I have faith that the "hate" will stop. I have faith that the Prophet will guide us in what to do.

It has been said so many times before that we can no longer "sit on the fence" with our choices. Now is the time to be 100% in the gospel. Though I do respect individuals lifestyle choices, I do not respect the hate. Why can people stand outside new temples with their posters, screaming hurtful and false things but we cannot take a stand for what we believe in? Why are LDS members picked on so much about this but other churches are left behind? I can promise you that SEVERAL other religions believe the same thing we do. Marriage is between a man and a woman. Plain and simple. God intended it that way, and we do too.

I am not a political person by any means but I know what I believe and I will fight to the end to defend that right.

Here is a video for the church the first time this all started.

You may recognize the girl stuttering in the end. :)

That's what you get for waking up in Vegas!

OK, so let me explain this picture a little. Having a husband that I see for only a few hours a week, its hard to always get messages to one another. So, from time to time I write messages on the "bathroom wall" with my handy dandy bathtub crayons. ( recommended ages 3+) I love them!! Sometimes its stupid jokes I heard, reminders for the day, and things of that nature. I figured we both shower at one point or another so he's bound to read the notes, and writing things on the toilet seat just isn't classy.
This time I made it a countdown to our random vacation.
This is our very outdated shower wall.
I know, I know, It's a little cheesy
but still really fun!
Now I say "random vacation" because that is exactly what it was. My parents were planning to come at the end of July for Zach's graduation and the Powell family reunion. Plans changed and they weren't able to come. Zach and I figured since we took time off anyways, we should put it to good use. Hence we came with our random last minute vacation....
We started our amazing weekend with the long awaited
Graduation from Paramedic school
(**screaming and jumping with excitement**) Bragging Wife Alert:I think its safe to say we are both so happy that the last NINE months went by quickly. I guess its just a little sneak peak of what medical school has in store for us. I am so unbelievably proud of this guy! He works harder then anyone I know! He is incredibly smart and did I mention good looking? I watched Zach in action last month when Grandpa had his "scary middle of the night thought he was going to die thing" < that's the medical term for it. Zach completely blew my mind with his medical knowledge and how CALM he was about everything! Ugh, I wish I was more like him sometimes! In two words... He's Amazing.
P.S. He made the deans list for his THIRD semester in a row! Marriage must be good for him. :)
Shortly after graduation, we packed our bags and headed to VEGAS! Yes, we did spoil ourselves a little this trip. We justify it as graduation, Zach's birthday, and our anniversary all wrapped in one.... so we went a little crazy. Nothing wrong with that, right? The first night we stayed at an amazing two bedroom condo just off the strip. Wish we brought people to party with because there was definitely room for it! They had a free shuttle that bussed us into the middle of the strip so we got dropped off and hit the town. We started our celebratory weekend with dinner at Joe's seafood in Cesar's Palace. Which was AMAZING and I highly recommend. MmmmM, my mouth waters just thinking about it. Then we walked around the Venetian for a bit and window shopped at all of the expensive stores. After walking off dinner we landed at TI for the pirate show. Treasure Island is where we stayed for our "mini" honeymoon on our way home from California so it was a bit sentimental. After standing outside in 90 degree weather (at night) for an hour with the humidity seeping to my bones, We took our sweaty selves home and decided to call it an early night.

Saturday was a bit more eventful. We both woke up with stuffy noses and puffy eyes. Oh joy! The AC had been blasting right on our heads all night and made us both sick! We checked out of the condo and grabbed a quick breakfast at McDonald's before heading to the new hotel. We were staying at the Luxor for the rest of our trip and drove around 3 times before we found the parking entrance. HA! We dropped our stuff off at the mac daddy suite and began our day. We decided to basically walk around the strip just see what there is to do. Seeing that it was 104 degrees in the shade, we ducked in and out of casinos to stay cool.

We walked over to Mandalay Bay through an underground tunnel and realized about 1 1/2 miles away from our hotel how far we had gone. It's WAY to easy to get lost in those stupid things. Then we walked to MGM to see M&M world and the Coke store.

It was great and what I dream heaven will be like.

Inside the Coke store, we signed up for "Tastes around the World". It was actually really fun. We were such dorks pretending to taste the drinks like fine wine tasters.
I would not recommend that much beverage consumption unless you are close to your hotel room or know where all the public restrooms are along the strip. Which I now know, in case you are wondering. I know, TMI.

Anyways....On our adventure we came across a ticket booth and I surprised Zach with tickets to the BLUE MAN GROUP for his birthday! Since the tickets were at 10 that night we needed things to fill our time till then. We walked everywhere, and I mean EVERYWHERE! Walked all the way to the other end of the strip and crashed somewhere between the Flamingo and the Venetian. We sat inside at watched the opera singers and the other free entertainment they had. It was so fun. We watched 3, count 'em, 3 water shows at the Belligo from different angles. We enjoyed dinner at a place called San Marcos in the St. Marks square. Delish food! I was laughing all through dinner because deep inside this casino a real pigeon happened to get in and flew around inside for the next 2 days. Spoiled little bird. Then when it was showtime we collapsed into our seats and had a blast! Zach was floored at the amazing things they did! He talked about it for the rest of the night. After the show, being the cheap kids we are we decided to again... walk the 5.4 miles back to our hotel. Which made for a grand total of almost 12 miles that day.

We closed the black out curtains and didn't wake up until noon the next day. This was our laid back, do nothing day. Which I think all vacations should have. We dined on Krispy Kream doughnuts for brunch and watched Shark week for most of the day. After taking a nice nap, we dressed up to go to the Bodies exhibit. Another mind blowing experience.
We came home after and spoiled ourselves with a little room service dessert and watched more shark week. We're geeks we know!

This also being an early anniversary weekend for us Zach surprised me with something wonderful. My very own BEAUTIFUL pearl necklace! He picked out the pearl all by himself! I guess its pretty rare. 7 out of 100. This picture isn't the best but the color is amazing! Its a dark grey blue color. Thank you so much honey, you are the sweetest! I love you so much!

We drove home Monday morning. We talked the ENTIRE way home. I think that was my favorite part. We talk about the most random things sometimes but I love it. There is nothing like being/talking with your best friend for 6 hours straight with no interruptions.

How did I get so lucky?!?!?

Proud Momma

Today I came home from a long day of work to find a clean house, fresh picked roses and the sweetest love note you've ever seen.

Vikki, you raised one heck of a son! Not only is he so smart and extremely good looking,

he's got a heart of gold.

So this little poem is just for you....

To my other mother,

You're the other mother I recieved

the day I wed your son.

And I just want to thank you, Mom,

For the loving things you've done.

You've givin me a gracious man

With whom I share my life,

You are his lovely mother,

and I his lucky wife.

You used to pat his little head

And now I hold his hand.

You raised in love a little boy,

And then gave me a man.

Thank you for all you do. We are so blessed to have such a wonderful Mother.

Here's to you, Lilarae!

Last night the Lyman clan headed to Nephi for the Ute Stampede. We had so much fun! The show started with a guy sky diving down with a huge flag behind him. It was amazing. Once he landed, several army men/women ran and caught the flag as a little boy sang the national anthem.

Of course it had all the classics of a great rodeo. Roping, riding, and Mom's big bag of treats. She's really the best!

This picture was taken by special request for Ms.Lilarae. We didn't want you to miss all the excitement of the rodeo. Here is a nice picture of the soda guy with a little extra show for you.

And of course, no family outting is complete without a ton of family pictures!

How Lucky You Are...

I came across this randomly one day.
Its actually a song and I am now very much in love with it

In the wonderful words of Dr. Seuss....

------------------------------------

When the news is all bad,
When you're sour and blue,
When you start to get mad
You should do what I do-

Tell yourself
How lucky you are...

When your life's going wrong
When the fates are unkind
When you're limping along
And get kicked from behind
Tell yourself how lucky you are...

Why decry a cloudy sky
An empty purse
A crazy universe?
My philosophy is simply
Things could be worse!

So be happy you're here.
Think of life as a thrill

And if worse comes to worse
(As we all know it will)
Thank your lucky star
You've gotten this far...

We are so proud of you, Josh! We know you will be an amazing missionary

Just kidding, you are an awesome little brother and we are lucky to be a part of your life!
Can't wait for the adventures ahead of you for the next two years!
